Postby ParrotsForLife » Wed Jul 08, 2015 5:09 pm

Rockos harness fits Loki now so I brought him out today and he enjoyed it he was better than Rockos first time out he didnt even bite at the harness much we even done some training outside it was great Loki will have his own harness soon so him and Rocko can go out together.Do you guys think a yellow or blue harness will look better on Loki I know these two colours would look good on him but what would be your opinion im leaning towards yellow.

I also tried to teach him how to fly good because hes not a good flyer and hits things all the time when his wings grow back he will learn quicker maybe I only clipped him because I was afraid he would seriously hurt himself because he already cut his cere when he was flighted and it was bruised.

Loki is a female, not a he but a she. No doubt about it. So get her a yellow harness because blue is for boys.

While you are correct, it is for whoever likes it. In the US when choosing colors for babies blue is very often said to be a male color. I am sure that it is a marketing ploy, but it has its origins in some folklore of some type.
I am sorry if you are having a bad day, hope it improves for you.

I'm not having a particularly bad day, I was trying to make a joke  ...While also keeping it serious, because, let's face it, there are no such things as gendered colors. But I of course didn't mean to sound harsh, I was actually being pretty light-hearted about it. :) I'm aware that blue is "traditionally" a "boys'" color.
And of course it's not only in the US, it is widely recognized - in all or most of the Western world, I believe. You're right that it probably started as a marketing ploy, but it does not originate in any sort of folklore. If you're interested, you can read some history on the subject here, I've found it's more interesting than it at first seems.

I'm of the opinion (is it even an opinion? it should be a fact!) that even though it is still popularly accepted that pink is for girls and blue is for boys, that is total and utter bullcrap and should be dismissed. Who cares about gender anyway? Or colors? I prefer flower print patterns! And would very much like to dress any potential future children or (more likely) nieces and nephews as Senegal parrots - in green and orange. ;)

Anyway, sorry, this is WAY off topic! Forgive me for borrowing your thread for this, ParrotsForLife, I only meant to make a quick joke/comment. :P

I am sorry that I misunderstood and meant no offense to you. I also try to inject humor at times and it is not always seen that way, so it may sound strange, it is refreshing to know that I am not the only one with this issue. I also think that you should be able to wear whatever you wish to wear regardless of its color(s) or style or even whether it was traditionally made and worn by one gender or the other. I also believe that anyone should be able to walk around safely and without being ridiculed, insulted, attacked or otherwise put down regardless of what or how much they choose to wear or how they decorate their body.
I did not see your attempt at humor as such and that is my failing, thank you for letting me know, I will do better in the future.

Oh, that's totally fine, Wolf! :) It's always hard to recognize that sort of thing when it's written as opposed to spoken, it's naturally always going to be really easy to misunderstand eachother over the internet, so don't worry about it! I'm used to having to clear up much more complicated misunderstandings due to this.
I, by the way, totally agree with everything you said. :)
