sleepy bird

Postby Lori » Wed Jul 15, 2015 9:26 am

Hi,
something I have noticed for awhile now but didn't think to much about it. After I get my bird up in the morning she has breakfast with us and then we all sit down to listen to the news, I notice she goes back to sleep, just closes her eyes. This morning I noticed that she not only went back to sleep but she tucked her head back, now that's really going back to sleep. Just wondering ....

You will have to forgive me but I forget details... Is it a baby or a rehome? If so, how old is it? How long have you had her (or him?)? Was it all alone in a home all day long in the past? Have you taken her to a vet for a check up? Do you keep her up after sunset?

sorry for the delay.
Scooter is 30 years old, but I think what ever it was has passed, she seems her old self this morning. I'm a bit...'goosey' about her lately. We lost our dog almost a month ago so I may be just upset about anything that may not be quite right
thanks Paj for being there

Well, let me tell you that it's great that you noticed and that it raised a red flag because I once had a female Senegal that died overnight and the only symptom she had was that, the morning before, she had gone to sleep right after breakfast -which did raise a red flag in my mind but as she was in perfect weight, perfect plumage, good appetite, strong flight, etc I figured I will keep an eye on her but she did come to eat her dinner as usual that same evening so I did not worry... but, in the morning, I found her dead and, when the vet did the necropsy on her, the seemingly perfectly healthy bird on the outside, had all her organs compromised!
