Would you be interested in a training blog?

Postby Michael » Wed Mar 24, 2010 6:40 pm

I'm just wondering by a show of hands (or in this case votes) how many people would be interested in following a training parrot blog when I get my new Cape. Jean told me today that she is just about ready to pull the babies, I'm so excited. So when I get the Cape, I plan to detail with articles, photos, and videos my life with an always flighted parrot. I'm planning to video and write about everything I teach the bird from initial taming to the steps I take to teach each trick.

I'm thinking (or more like dreaming) of setting up the blog separately from the forum but all of the blog comments would come up as forum posts in a special section and forum responses to blog comments would appear on the blog. So basically the blog comments system would be interconnected with the forum and encourage blog readers to read forum and vice verse. Tell me if you think this is a good idea or if you disagree.

I'm trying to gauge the amount of interest in this blog idea as I am working on setting up the blogging software now so that it would be ready by the time I get the bird. I need to know how many people would be interested in reading such a thing on a regular basis and how many people would rather receive it by email as a newsletter rather than read online.

Also if there is anyone that thinks they would want to participate in such a blog let me know as well and I will consider developing it as a community rather than personal blog.

I voted yes online

I may not agree with all your bird related thoughts but there is no denying that you are great at what you do when it comes to training!

I voted yes as well for an online blog. I'm just starting to clicker condition both my red-bellied and senegal and find all the information you provide to be very useful.

I'd like the online blog, my e-mail is too full as it is ;)

PS, I thought you already had a website set up for this and was just waiting for the bird? I think I stumbled upon a website of yours a while ago.

I have the domain and the website space, I'm custom writing a blogging software for posting and organizing the messages. So far I haven't seen any interest in email newsletters. I'll wait a while longer but if I get the impression that no one wants this kind of thing by email, I won't waste my time making an email part to it. But if there are people who say they'd forget to check the website and would rather just get it in their email, then I will make it.

Can you do a mix of both? I would probably forget to check the website too. Maybe you could have an e-mail notification sent out when you update the blog?

Well that was the idea. There's no saying that email people can't read online because the online part will be the main thing. The email feature would be additional. Anyone, if you'd want to get it by email (whether or not you'd read on site as well), please mark email so I can gauge the value of creating the email feature.

Ok, I understand you now. I changed my vote. I'd like to read online AND get an e-mail notification of new posts.
