Tell people that you have parrots of your own that you have trained and that you are an amateur. Perhaps you can help them with their bird but don't promise them that you can.
If you are wanting to be a vet then the items that I suggested that you study on are all things that will help you to realize that goal. At best there are no experts with parrots, we simply don't know enough about them for any of us to be an expert, so beware of those claiming to be experts when speaking of parrots.

Pajarita wrote:My dear, you are a very young teenager with two very young hand-fed cockatiels (the mildest parrots there are) so, in reality, you don't even have any proof that your training will actually 'hold' as the years go by. So the sum total of your experience in training is almost non-existent. You can't even really interact properly with your own mother's gray even though it's been in your house for years. Knack or no knack, you are in no position to train somebody else's bird even if that was the way it was done which is NOT.
A bird trainer trains his/her own birds. They don't train other people's birds. They might put out books, videos, whatever explaining their technique, teach it to other people and even do private consultations where they observe the bird and owner's interaction and give pointers, corrections, etc but they don't train these birds themselves because the 'trainer' needs to be the person who will live with the parrot. So your idea of what it means to be a bird trainer is not even what it really is.
Going around portraying yourself as a bird trainer to other people and offering to train their birds for them is completely irresponsible (does your mother know what you are doing?) and you might end up doing more harm than good. Please reconsider.

Wolf wrote:I really don't think that making suggestion that will help you accomplish what you are doing is complaining, but I could be wrong about it. I know that you are not qualified to be a trainer but am trying to help you learn enough to help you, not even trying to stop you. If you truly have a knack for it, I would rather try to help you make the most of it.

Pajarita wrote:Oh geez! Am I glad I no longer have to deal with teenagers! Look, I could be your grandmother and I really do not mean to hurt your feelings but your 'work' is a disaster waiting to happen. You know soooooo little about birds that you think your training is the way to go with new birds when, in reality, they should be bonding with their owners.
Lots of people have commented on why I am against this training fad and THIS is the reason why! People (and children!!!) who have no business doing it think they can and who ends up paying the price for their arrogance? The poor birds!
