Leaners

Postby Saerphe » Sat Sep 12, 2015 8:37 pm

Something I've noticed that Akimi likes to do is she likes to sit next to my hand and lean against it while resting her head on top. She likes to snuggle next to my hands a lot, but usually she's full-out laying down on my lap with her side snuggled up against my hand, usually in such a way that she's in optimal position to get head or beak scritches while taking her lap nap. But when she hangs out on my laptop keyboard, she likes to just lean against my hand and rest her head on top and stare at me.

I kind of find it amusing because my dog is also a leaner, especially when he's getting petted - either against my leg when he's standing on the floor, or against my side when he's sitting with me on the couch. I often have one hand devoted to petting each of them at any given time... which makes it hard to get anything done. ;)

Reminds me of the song "Lean on Me".

I know exactly how you feel. We really need a few extra hands. With 5 dogs, 3 cats, 2 Amazons and 15 cockatiels there is always something that wants petted. They know all they have to do is get under my hand. It has become so common that I sometimes wake up at night petting a lump in the pillow.

Yes, GCCs are BIG cuddlers and they seem to need that physical touch almost all day long. You should see Codee sleeping with Pablo, they perch real, real close to each other so their bodies are like stuck from the bend of the wing (where we would think the shoulders are) all the way to the tips of the wings and, most often, their heads are touching too. It's the cutest cutest thing! So much so that my husband makes it a point to shine a bit of light on them when we let the dogs out in the evening (by leaving the door to the kitchen open the merest crack) so he can look at them doing this :D

That is so cute! That's how Akimi likes to sleep on my lap next to my hand - pressed right up against my hand and wrist, from her neck or cheek all the way down to the ends of her primaries. <3

Yes, GCCs seem to need the actual physical contact as much as cockatoos do. It's such and endearing quality of theirs, isn't it? But real hard on people and them because humans are not able to provide this 'constant touch' 24/7 and that's why GCCs that don't get enough time ON their humans get bitey.
