Green cheek and Senegal

Postby shankpa » Sat Sep 19, 2015 9:50 pm

Do you guys think housing a senegal and a green cheek in the same cage would be unwise?

In most cases very unwise as the Senegal could easily kill the Green Cheek Conure.

Why on earth would you want to? If they become buddies they should interact while out of cage with you there. Even as buddies they should have their own bedrooms (cages).

Senegals are wonderful birds but they are an aggressive bird as well and if they have been raised as a single bird can be very difficult to get to accept another bird in their presence. There is a very good chance that they will even attack another Senegal of the opposite sex.

If (and that is a HUGE 'if') they are really bonded, you keep them at a strict solar schedule and did not free-feed protein food (the GCC cannot eat the same diet as the Senegal, either) and they had a huge cage in which they did not have to spend a lot of time locked in, you could. But unless they have been bonded (and I am talking eating, flying and napping together as well as preening each other) for quite a while (two months minimum) and all the conditions I mentioned were fulfilled, I would not try it. You can end up with a severely wounded or dead GCC...
