I'm sorry to hear you will be rehoming as I know how much you love your birds. And our loss will be Uruguay's gain when you leave. Still, the internet is everywhere now, so I hope you will continue to correspond with us.

Oh, yes, no worries about that. I will continue posting.

No need to apologize, Wolf. As a matter of fact, I was thinking about this last night and decided to tell you that it was not a good idea for a couple of reasons. Don't misunderstand me, I GREATLY appreciate the fact that you were thinking about it and I know, for a fact, that you would do the impossible to give him a good life but there are circumstances that need to be taken into consideration:
1) Talking about a bonded pair of plets, tiels, budgies, GCCs, etc is one thing but a bonded pair of amazons is a completely different story. Male amazons are powerful, strong, very self-assured birds and VERY jealous of their females. They do NOT take it kindly to anybody touching them and would attack anybody who does so taking into consideration the fact that Pedro is a wild-caught that was never actually tamed, if he has bonded with Mimi, you guys would have been in a world of trouble trying to keep a relationship with her.
2) I know your birds bit when they came to you but believe me when I tell you that the degree of aggression you've been exposed to is nothing compared to that of a jealous wild-caught male amazon. We are talking about a big bird that would fly out to grab you face/head/neck/shoulders with his claws and bite the heck out of whatever part of your body he can reach -which is, usually, the ears, neck or face. Eventually, you and your lady would have been hurt.
3) Your flock is still too 'young' for such an upheaval. They all need to find their place and settle down to an even cohabitation before you should consider bringing a new member.

Personally, I think that the idea of a companion for Mimi would do wonders for her but, if you ask me, I would look for an older amazon hen. They are sweet, they are not jealous so you can safely interact with both of them (even at the same time!)and they get along famously with each other. At least, that has been my experience.

Well I think that it is important for my Lady to have a good relationship with Mimi and her and Mimi's well being would be my only concern as far as Pedro goes. I kind of oversee my Lady and Mimi, but don't say much as they tend to work things out for themselves if I just let them and I don't really have much of a relationship with Mimi for myself. That is Mimi's choice and I don't mind.
Please understand that I do in fact love these birds, but I have no need to have any sort of relationship with them for myself. I give them what I can out of love and respect and I do not require anything in return, not them liking me or anything. They had a need and I was able to give them a safe place to heal or whatever they need. This is not about me, I just can't turn my back on someone in need if I can assist them.
Kookooloo and Kiki need me and my interactions with them as they have no one else and that is great but I would be just as happy with them if they didn't need me and had someone else, even if they could accept each other. Keeta, now has Rajah, but she still wants to interact and spend time with me and that is cool, but it would be fine if Rajah was enough for her.
I learned a long time ago that we all need to learn to live together and help each other when we can or we may be walking, but we are just dead meat. And I make no distinction as to what our physical form is. I know that this is weird to most humans, but it is the way that I am.

I think it is a little farther than Jersey. That will make for a long drive. Ha Ha

Pajarita you will be the same as in the same place to me. I didn't travel to you to get a bird.

I hear you loud and clear and understand perfectly where you are coming from because it's exactly the same with me. I love and enjoy my birds tremendously but I don't need them to love me for me to be happy... actually, if they did not love me and had somebody/birdy else to love I would be even happier!

Marc Johnson once said that the only valid reason for people to take in parrots into their homes should be to help them - and I agree 100%!

My mom came from Argentina when she was in her early 20's and taught herself English. From what I understand, the culture of Uruguay and Argentina are very similar, right?
Mate, facturas, impanadas, dulce de leche, and pascualina are probably my favorite things from Argentina. Not to mention the various parrots species that are in that area.
That's cool how you guys have that in common!

Oh, what a coincidence! I also taught myself English (I used to read books with a dictionary next to me and would pester people for hours asking them how to pronounce all the new words I found).

And YES, Argentina and Uruguay have, pretty much, the same culture and foods -only Argentinians call the pastries 'factura' while we call them 'bizcochos' but the only difference is the name. And one of my husband's favorite dishes is also pascualina (he complains all the time that I don't make it often enough -and it's true, but it's a lot of work for just two people)
