Myrtle was on my shoulder when I opened the storm door. A wind took the door out of my hands and sucked Myrtle off my shoulder. It was awful. I watched her being blown back and forth all over my front yard before being blown into the neighbors yard. She fought the wind. If she had been clipped I don't think she would have survived. Since then Myrtle has no desire to go out.

I just read a post on facebook that an IRN was attacked by a hawk while on his owner's shoulder. The hawk let go at the end of his flight leash but came back after him. The owner could hear him screaming and found him. The little guy flew right back to the owner. The feisty little guy was cover in blood but it was not his. I don't think he will ever go outside again.

Actually, that's not quite so. Cats belong more to the house (or territory) where they live than they do to the people who live with them. And that's why, when you get a new cat or move to a new home with an old one, you can't let them out (not that I let any of my cats out!) for weeks and weeks until their smell is all over the place and they 'feel' this is their 'place'.

Oh I always thought that our neighbours cat Milo used to come to our house everyday and we would feed him he was kicked out of the house a lot sometimes all night and sometimes he would even hop in the kitchen window. Then he started coming in the house and attacking us because he has a brain tumour.

Well, most likely, your house was part of 'his' territory. Cats that live on the streets or are let out regularly have quite a large territory, actually... sometimes it encompasses many blocks. I care for a feral colony and can recognize all of them even from afar and I sometimes see them blocks and blocks away from my house when I am driving around - but they are ALWAYS in my backyard when it's feeding time both in the morning and the evening  They wait on the fence or the trees and, as soon as the last dog (which is ALWAYS Bunny!) has one foot on the stairs to come back in, they all start coming closer (I have a little lean-to next to the house where I put their food so the rain and snow doesn't touch it). Cats are incredibly smart when it comes to survival skills...
