Safe cookware.

Postby Matt Alyk » Sun Sep 27, 2015 10:10 pm

Made with aluminum and a PFOA free coating. Is it safe for parrots? It didn't mention PTFE.

What, exactly, is the coating they do have? Because, although it might not have PFOA, it could have PTFE so it could still be bad. I use stainless steel with copper bottoms.

My thoughts do. Sticking with stainless steel and cast iron would probably be best.

I,too, use copperbottomed stainless, but I wonder about the new ceramic coatings. Does anyone know if they are parrot safe?

Ceramic should be safe but I am very happy with mine (and my husband paid an arm and a leg for them -they were a Christmas present) so they will be staying for the duration.

I remember that a long time ago, I was still a child, that there were pots and pans with a ceramic coating. They were actually quite good, but they had one major drawback, they were prone to chipping. This could be from a sharp blow to them or from getting them too hot. They quit making them. I don't know anything about the new ones but I wonder if they might be prone to the same drawbacks.

No, actually, Wolf, you can still find the old-fashioned ceramic-covered ones in Spanish places. I have a couple of super large ones I use for my Puchero (a meal made out of all the stuff you use for a good broth).

Once in a great while I find one, usually chipped pretty badly in an antique store.
