Lol pet shop

Postby Parrotkeeper02 » Sat Oct 24, 2015 7:01 am

There's a mass breeder that I've had 3 attempts to stop him from breeding soo many lorikeets now he has to many and trying to sell them everywhere so he put them online and and also at the local pet shop that knows nothing about lorikeets-birds in general and when I went to buy food today I saw a employee cleaning they next to the shelves and floor covered in lorikeet poo :D
But I feel sad to the lorikeets that hasn't gotten adopted and been trapped in a busy pet shop

Unfortunately the only way to stop the over breeding of lorikeets or any other parrot is for the breeders to be unable to sell them. And that bodes ill for the birds, but so does the continued overbreeding of them.

Indeed, if people would only stop buying from breeders, they would stop and we would not have the huge overpopulation problem we have. But I don't think that doing this actually endangers the birds more than the continuous breeding of birds that are in overpopulation or shouldn't even be bred for human pets. Yes, some of them will end up in petstores but the ones they keep on breeding also end up in petstores and, this way, at least, the cycle is broken.

I totally agree I don't like breeders earthier they say they do it cause they like birds but they just do it for the money.if only breeders would stop over breeding there would be so many happy parrots or other animals not stuck inside a overcrowded shelter

I don't like breeders. My sister breeds English Bull dogs and she knows how I feel about it. Staying on her case she has started taking better care of them.

If all breeders would just stop for a couple years there would be none in rescues. The existing ones would all get homes and be treated better because they would be more valuable.

Rambo was neglected in his first home. The human I got him from stole him. When she was about to sell him after about 14 years, I put pressure on her and took all four critters she was going to sell.

I do pay rehoming fee for my rescues but that is usually enough money for the owner to recupe the expense of the cage and stuff coming with them.

Phoenix and Flutter were the only ones that I actually paid for. Their price was too low and I knew they needed help. I did not know until I got them handed to me in a cardboard box that he was a flipper or I would have just taken them and not paid him.

There are sooooo many out there, Liz, that it would take much more than a couple of years of no breeding to even begin to make a dent in the numbers.

Personally, I don't think that parrots should be bred to be used as human pets but, realistically speaking, people been how they are, they want what they want and the bird's wellbeing be damned so quotas and licenses with annual inspections would satisfy me. At least, that way, the numbers will not keep on rising and only the better breeders will be able to produce birds.
