I didn't really give much detail when I commented earlier...

I'm a Payroll Administrator by day and a Certified General Accountant student by night. I'm also a volunteer at a local rescue and foster dogs in my home until they're adopted.

I am first and foremost a mom to 3 human children and my slew of furry/feathered children. In all, I have 2 ferrets, 7 cats, 1 dog (pug), 3 pet mice and a pet leopard gecko.

I work from home. I am currently a medical transcriptionst/QA (quality assurance) editor and I work nights from about 10 pm till I get the kids up and off on the bus for school each day, so I am here 24/7 with the birdy bird and other animals. I currently mentor people who have completed transcription training courses, so that they can get experience and be hired (most companies require 3 years experience). This is why I do not usually spell check my posts, I spend most of my time spell checking and grammar checking so I chose to not do it when doing my own personal fun things.

And I have one free day, which I usually use to clean out all my animal cages. And I'm going to school for veterinary medicine. There isn't a day I'm not around animals :D

If we had an empty bird cage at the pet store I would definitely bring my bird in to watch me work, but I doubt my boss would appreciate it like the bird would.

i want to go to school and study that exact same stuff right now i go to school (i am only twelve) how old do you have to be to work at a petstore?

Hi,

I just wanted to give you a word of warning: ferrets will get a hold of and seriously injure or kill your Senegal in a heartbeat! It's usually recommended to not even have a pet bird and ferrets in the same house. Just wanted to let you know to be extra careful with that. (I'm sure you already are but I figured since you are new to birds you might not know the danger ferrets represent to them)

Yeah, I figured that and was thinking that ferrets would probably eat him. They are never out together, either the ferrets are out for a bit or the bird is. I will be careful.

Jobs

Postby Kim S » Tue Aug 17, 2010 3:47 am

Not to be too curious, well actually, I am curious.
But what do you all do? What is your daily job (if you have one). I noticed I've got a big stereotype idea of what kind of people own parrots. They are either bums who own a parrot just to be able to say they own an exotic pet. They dont even have enough money to pay the electricbill, let alone provide for the parrot, three dogs and five cats.
Or they are very artistic people, like architects, who lost all contact with the world of people and use their animals as inspiration.
The only 'normal' people owning a parrot would be the people who actually work with animals on a day to day basis. Vets, animal caretakers ect.

Unfortunately, I dont fit into my view of the world.

I am no architect but I work for them. Does that fit me into that catagory?
I work mainly with Hollands heritage buildings. Most of them are older than 50 years, up to 700 years old. I measure up the buildings and use that to draft an image on the computer. That can be used to draw out any new buildingplans or to make up a plan for conservation. I take care of the aplications for permissions and governmentfunds.
Besides that I do research on buildinghistory. I write reports on what has been changed during the years and what parts are considered historically important to the building.

I work for an insurance company, in the motor claims department. I am a deputy team leader so my job is to register claims, make sure existing ones are running ok and check other people on the team are doing them correctly.

I seem to spend half my life in an excel spreadsheet. :(

I work in IT for a Pharmaceutical company. I manage all the changes that are made to our production computer environment and ensure that they are properly tested, documented and approved. I pretty much make sure that a department of 50 IT people follow the necessary regulatory guidelines.

I've met a diverse group of parrot owners over the last year or so and I don't think there is a typical 'stereotype' for the kind of people that own parrots. They vary from students to honest hardworking people. Most people I have met are very responsible pet owners and care deeply about their feathered companions.

I am a college student taking the Web Applications & Design program, I work part time at Napa Auto parts as a delivery driver. ...you might say I fall into the "barely can pay the bills" category but that's only because I'm still waiting on this years student loan to pay out. I'm also a bit "special" as I am a mature student that has returned to school and not a typical high school kid new to the real world. I'm a previous college graduate of a 1yr Animal Care program & lost my full time retail job 2yrs ago due to the recession.
