I guess that I have lived with and associated with animals to such an extent that I just naturally accept them pretty much as they are. I try to teach them what they need to know to get along in a basically human world as well as the humans and their natural behaviors that bother most people I just see as their way of doing things and as long as they are not overly destructive don't really bother me.
I don't like cats because it seems cruel to me to play with my food before I kill it which cats tend to do, almost like they need the fear hormones produced by their victims, but it is the way that they are. It is pretty much the only reason that I don't like them. It is a cat thing and dos do dog things and birds do bird things that I don't really understand all of the time but I watch and learn from them every day. I have very few difficulties with animals, it is humans that I understand the least. Their spirit seems to be sick and our actions suggest that we are mentally and emotionally out of balance.

I cannot swear this is true of all cats but, for what I have observed, it's only cats that belong to humans or have kittens that 'play' with their prey, the ferals catch them, kill them and eat them. Period.

Like you, I can't swear that all of them do this, but I have seen it in feral cats as much as the more domesticated ones. It may have something to do with the abundance of food though.

There a lot of things that are just normal animal behavior that I've learned to accept as well. Sometimes though, I wonder if it's really normal behavior, or if they're to get a reaction from me.

For example: Lucy likes to walk on my iPad while I use it. I don't know if it's just because she likes the colors, or if she knows it annoys me. Sometimes, I wonder if she's trying to help, in some way or another.

That ipad stroll is her wanting your attention. If you have time to play with that then you have time to spend with her. Besides why waste time with that thing when you have a perfectly good parrot to play with?

 That's true. These blasted technologies get me so frustrated anyways. Lucy just makes me laugh with her irritation.

In all seriousness though, I use that thing to check my mail, do work and such when I don't have my laptop handy. Even with the laptop though, she tries to chew the keys. Now my S key is missing, and there's just the rubber button left.

I guess I should have been more specific though. She doesn't just walk on it. She tries to touch the screen with her beak, too, and lick the screen. It's as if she's trying to make it work, the way I do, though she has no idea what she's doing.

All I can say about computer keyboards is that if you value yours don't let your parrot play on it.

I try not to, but I will admit though, that the S key was actually me trying to get a piece of seed from a millet spray, out from under it.

She's quite determined about it, too. Sometimes I'll put her on the coffee table, since I have stuff for her to play with on there. Well, the dog was standing between the couch and table, and apparently flying is too much work. So what does she do? She hops down, right onto the dog's back. Freaked the dog out, but I got her to step up before things escalated.

JessiMuse wrote:My bird has recently picked up the habit of wanting to eat my food. I never really let her of course, unless if I know it's ok for her to. It started with one piece of cereal. She just came up and took it from the bowl. I let her, thinking she probably wouldn't like it. Boy was I wrong. She ran to the other side of the table like she just stole a treasure from a sacred temple, and ate it. Now, I just try and shield my food from her. Hasn't had my cereal since, but she still tries.

Craziest part is, I'll put food on the table for her to eat, and yet she just wants mine. As a friend of mine says: "The forbidden actions are the most fun".

it used to a real chore to keep myrtle away from my food. I now have a place at the table for her. the trick is to take food out of your plate for hers. I have had to give up eggs. she starts begging when she sees the egg carton.
