What a neat trip that must have been. We love seeing the wild lovebirds in Phoenix!

It's interesting I've never seen a Monk Parakeet out on Long Island. I guess the massive starling swarms wouldn't have much to do with it.

LOL I can imagine how loud they must be together all free and quantified! My little Yoshi is loud enough that sometimes it makes my ears ring. :P

Beautiful pictures, you have an excellent eye.

I know this is an older post but I just joined the forum and thought I'd share my experiences with the NY wild parrots. They have been around since the 70s I think, and there is a flock that's called Queens home, in fact they nested under the Throgg's Neck Bridge, which is near my apartment in Queens. 2 summers ago, I took video of them eating our neighbor's pears from her pear tree. They were here (and let everyone know it!) for the first 2 summers I lived here, but not this summer. I'm not sure why they haven't come back.

One video is of our dusky conure Spike watching the Quakers outside (Spike is flighted and there is a screen there you can't see).

Do the parrots build nests like that in their natural habitat? Who taught them how? Those are really elaborate.

Yes, apparently it's an innate capability. Hand raised monk parakeets that never saw such a nest and were raised by humans still revert to trying to turn every piece of wood they can find into such a nest inside their cage.
