Name That Parrot Game

Postby Michael » Thu Mar 25, 2010 8:09 pm

Ok, let's see how well you know your parrot species. I am going to provide some pictures of a kind of parrot and you have to guess the name.

The 2 rules are:

A) Don't look it up, just guess off the top of your head. You can look up your answers afterwards if you want to see if you got them right. Also don't scroll down past the end of the description post, use the reply button at the top of the screen so you don't see what other people put.

B) Once you post your answers don't go back and edit them.

Basically no cheating, otherwise it wouldn't be any fun. Provide your answers by putting the number of the question and then the answer, one per line. Since it is a free form answer, spelling mistakes will be forgiven if it is still clear what is being referred to. However, in the event of a tie or many perfect scores, preference will be given to answers with greater specificity/accuracy. After everyone has had a chance to answer, I'll post the answers and see how everyone did. I'm going to use "Parrots - A Guide to the Parrots of the World" as the ultimate source for naming parrots if there are any discrepancies. Ok, ready?

The amazon was the only one I missed. I knew it had to be the double yellow or yellow nape and I picked the wrong one. Fun game though! :)

Oh and Mandy female indian ringneck's don't have the ring only the males have the ring. But you guessed right it is an Alexanderian. :)

Really?! I didn't know that! That's interesting. Glad I didn't know that before or I definitely would have gone with the ringneck!

The difference between the yellow nape and the double yellow headed amazon is the yellow nape will have a splotch if yellow on the back of his neck and sometimes a little bit of yellow above his beak.
The double Yellow has an all yellow head with horn colored beak!

I didn't know the blue headed pionous!
