Night Frights

Postby ParrotsForLife » Sun Nov 22, 2015 8:58 pm

Rocko and Loki have never ever had night frights but Loki has had 2 she had one a few days ago she wasn't harmed and I was awake when it happened so I was able to switch on the lights and calm her down and Rocko because if she is flying all over the cage its gonna cause Rocko to do the same and he could get injured too.Well just a few minutes ago she had a night fright and she and Rocko was flying all over the cage and just now I found a tail feather at the bottom of the cage and now today I just watched one of Manda & Rio's videos on Moulting and she was talking about feathers and stuff and well I examined Loki's tail feather and squeezed the shaft and blood came out so its a fresh feather that just came out from her night fright.I checked her and there isn't any blood coming from her.I know night frights are common with cockatiels so what can I do to prevent it happening? And why exactly do Night Frights happen?

My tiels never had night frights until we moved back to New Jersey and, after spending a night in the birdroom, I discovered it was that a sliver of light from a street lamp was shining on their cage. Once I put a blackout curtain on it, no more night frights.

But I think that what really happens is that they get startled for whatever reason, light, noise, whatever and, as their instinct is to fly away when they feel threatened, they do this and crash against the bars of the cage which makes them panic because they feel trapped.

If there is one mouse in your house, there is likely to be more, if not right now then there will be soon. You need to get rid of it. Rats and mice will bite and chew on birds.

Oh I know theres more because the one I saw was just a baby.We have had mice before and there are new houses being built in the area so a lot of construction being done.We have mouse poison and traps around the house.I wouldn't put a trap in my bedroom I don't like stuff like that.
