It also might be cheaper to build a container with untreated 2X2's with a covering of clear acrylic sheeting.

You said that limiting the space will stunt their growth and I understand that as these are not the only creature that is affected in this way.. With the cost of another setup not to mention the space requirements, it does seem that a temporary divider would be the answer for now. but like you I am concerned with stunting the growth of each of them. What about dividing the cage horizontally instead of a vertical divider that way one is above the other and still has the full length and width of the tank?

This is a very good Idea but they both need the UVB bulb, it just sitting on the mesh top dilutes it by 40% and supposedby it doesnt pass well by plastic or glass..
Pajarita wrote:I also think that even if it is a bit uncomfortable or inconvenient, you still need to find a way of separating them. Don't they have a place where people sell used stuff? Maybe you can find an inexpensive tank there that would work out - or maybe you can use some other type of container, like a plastic storage one... it might not be the ideal but if it's temporary, it should work out, no?

This is actually a great idea! I dont know still about distributing the UV, unless I had it outside, or I can buy another. I am not sure if I will be able to do this, I still would love an outdoor cage so they can get natural UV, which is better for them and then the can be huge :D

That would be really cool, I will have to talk to my parents before doing anything, but I also love this idea.

But make sure the acrylic doesn't have any UV blockers because, here in the States, even Plexiglas has them.

A... SPARE animal?! I cannot even begin to describe how much that term makes me cringe. I understand her intentions were good, but... I guess it gives me mixed feelings, like how my mother gave me Alex as a "replacement" for Lucy (which didn't work out because I got Lucy back. :D). It's good you love him all the same, though. It's not the dragon's fault.

I like wolf's idea of building one. Usually with terrariums you buy, you often have to compromise, but when you build one, you can find a way to make it not only big enough, but you can build it into a shape that can perfectly fit the space you want to put it in. It can also be cheaper than buying a bigger one, depending on the materials you use.

Me too.. :( I do get that she was trying to be nice and concerned and everything... but concerned for me not the dragon. Because they arent a toy.

Me too
This was what I had meant by an outdoor enclosure https://www.google.com.au/search?q=tin+ ... j15EBzM%3A
A tin enlosure + with wire underneath and on top for a roof would sptop them getting out, or predators getting in. :)

Strictly based on what you are sharing here about them, I would do a frame of untreated 2X2's with a wire mesh bottom with a platform at each end so that they can get off of the wire as well as a place for bedding if they need it. I would run acrylic sheeting around the lower portion of the sides and ends and then a wire mesh for the remainder of the sides and put a metal roof on top to provide shade and rain protection. The more that I know about their requirements the better I can describe the enclosure they need.

They need a hot and cold side, a hideway, humididy around 40 is good so airflow is great (my current tank only has minimum airflow so i have to leave the doors open for a while every now and then,. 40gallon per adult(my tank size) and I think that is about it. thanks Wolf :D

Oh, I didn't know bear dies did well outside. Guess I shouldn't be surprised though. They're pretty hardy. :D

Are the outside conditions in your area suitable for beardies?

My son gave me 2 female ghecos for my birthday. I named them by the pattern on their backs. One had dots and the other had dashes. So they were Dot and Dash. He built a cage for them then bought a male from Madagascar which I named Max as in Mad Max. They were not the same species but they got along.

Chuck used 2X2 wood with a screen cover. Working with screen works a lot easier than wire. They could walk up the mesh screen but it was pulled so tight that they could not bite it. It was 3X3X5 and gave them plenty of room. He put plants in and a tree branch for them to run on.

I found out that little ghecos had personalities too and I got very attached to them. Max was social. When the cat crashed through the top of the cage Max got out. We were all looking everywhere to find him. (we had a Chihuahua that would kill) I was looking through a plant and was really tired of looking when I finally said "Max where are you". I saw two little green feet and then a green nose poke out from behind the buffet. To this day I can't help but laugh when I think about it.

Sorry for the long post. I am old and sometimes the memories spill out.
