I didnt know that! It is like the main supermarket in Australia and they are everywhere, other than that there are little supermarkets like IGA and Aldi, but Woolworths is the main shop! :D It is Aus's version of Walmart.

I remember seeing Aldi's here but not for a long time, I don't know anything about them as I have never shopped at one of them. IGA used to be a pretty major grocery chain here and up until probably 15 years ago the were still fairly common, now there just aren't very many of them here that I am aware of.

Oh, wow, yes, Woolworth disappeared a long time ago! I loved it, though! It was better than Walmart because it had the food/soda fountain counters, too.

Yes, the last Woolworths that I saw was in 1974, I believe. At that time Sears had really nice stores as well it was really at the end of the large department store chains in this country and the beginning of the strip malls with a lot of specialty stores.

They have two kinds of Walmart here, there are the 'regular' Walmarts and then there are the superstores -and those are really big and yes, you can pretty much find anything in them.

This is a picture of a reproduction of a Woolworth soda fountain:

My very first job in USA was in a soda fountain but it was in People's Drug Store in the Tyson's Corners mall in Virginia (and it looked very similar to that). I did not speak or understand any English so I learned the menu and all the possible replies by heart
