Re: Do you're birds like to play on the floor?

The first thing that comes to mind is that his options are rather limited at this time since he can't fly and probably wants to explore his home other than just on the cage.

I would agree with Wolf here, Shrekie cant fly propperally yet and is still molting out her clipped feathers and she loves the floor, Tilly however wants nothing other than her cage, an arm shoulder or head, and anything else high up that she can get to and play on.
And anthough she be little, she is fierce ~Shakespeare

Some species love to go to ground but, in my personal experience, GCCs are not one of them so I would have to agree with the 'limited options' theory but it sounds as if it's looking for a 'cavity' also (they do love those!).

Yes...my GCC Fajr likes to walk around on the floor...he chooses it over flying sometimes...he'll go foraging, picking up seed from around the other birds' cage. (Please keep in mind that I am very boring to him these days as I'm usually typing or studying, and the whole floor is available to him for exploration. If it's just the two of us in a bedroom, he'll perch and wait while I study or beg for pets.)

Also, if toys are available, he will take them to the floor. The other birds prefer to pick their things up and fly up to play, but Fajr likes to roll around with new things, too. I think your birds options are limited, as Wolf said, but I wouldn't be too concerned.

Just always be aware of where he is and where you place your feet or other thing as he might already be there or move to where you are going to set something. His options may be limited due to not being flighted, but in time that will change and so for now he will make due by finding new and novel ways to get into trouble by walking and climbing, it is good for them to do this exploring of things and then when he can fly he will again expand on the new and novel ways to get into difficult places and cause you minor problems.

Yes be carful where your feet are. :amazon: is a pedestrian. He will follow me all through the house. I have had to modify my steps and don't seem to be able to walk a straight line anymore.

Both my green cheeks like the floor. I encouraged it with Ollie really- not on purpose but there is enough room on the floor to play the bottle cap game. Not sure how/why Rena learned to love the floor though.
