Tell me what information are you trying to find out about your bird? Where did you get him? I will get back to you soon after I get the chance to do some checking.

I thought i can know more about birth date, the sex and the country they impoted from and why he is byting me sometimes even if he is not a wild parrot.

I bought from Jordan and i have another african grey but a wild one without a band. They r together since a week and the farm one start to learn byting. What can i do? I thought i will be able to play with the new one easier because he is more familier with human, but now they r 2 against me :gray:  :gray:

What country are you in? If he is closed banded, and born in '15, he was not imported at all. A bird without a band is not necessarily wild caught. I don't think Greys have been legally imported into the US since the early 90s.

The best info ou can hope for on a closed band is year of birth and breeder. The letters are probably the breeder or club code, and the numbers following are the bird's ID number. If you can find out who the breeder was, you might be able to find out a hatch date, but not necessarily.

To be honest, a comprehensive vet visit, with blood tests, will give you a whole lot more useful information, such as sex, health, than getting a precise birth date, or knowing that the bird has bred in Florida rather than Texas, etc.

I went back over some of Mina's earlier postings, Navre, and Mina is in Ammon. Jordan.

I really have no idea about where to begin a search for banding information in your area of the world and the information in the posts on this forum are about where to maybe find information about a banded parrot here in the USA and so will not be much help for you in Jordan. While this will take me longer and I can't promise any results, I will still try to find out more about banding birds, especially of parrots in Jordan.

As far as I am aware of the information that you are looking for other than who the breeder was or the actual date of hatch and possibly the sex of the banded bird will not be found in any records, but will try and help on that if I can.

Mina, I do not intend this to be rude but the primary reason for a parrot and especially a Grey to be biting is due to fear and the second most common reason is that the human ( you) are not listening to the bird. This is an area that I can very often be helpful in, but it does require open and honest evaluations and answers to question from both of us. I know that you were having problems with posting pictures of your first Grey and if you still can't post pictures here, then perhaps we can have you e mail the pictures to me and I will post them for you. If so then let me know and I will provide you with my e mail address in the PM area which is private messaging.

Grey parrots are among the most intelligent and most gentle of all of the parrots, they are also one of the most sensitive towards our emotions of any bird that I have ever been acquainted with. If you are being bitten by these birds then I assure you that they have a very good reason for it and it is up to us to learn what that reason is. I will do all that I can to help you to understand your birds and to solve the biting issues that you are having.

Please tell me as much as you can about how you care for your two Greys. By this let us begin with are they in separate cages, and what size are the cages? When do they get up in the mornings and go to bed at night? What type of interaction do you have with them and do they have any out of cage time? Do you know what their favorite food is? You need to know this for training treats. Do you spend much time with them just talking and perhaps singing to them. Since they are biting you describe to me what normally happens when you are getting bitten and let us see if we can gain their trust and stop the biting.

Thanx again Wolf for everything.

Well i hope i can post photos of them, but i think its not possible to attach pictures from iPhone. So if its ok with u please send me ur email address to contact u through :)

Ok i will give u all the information u need below:

1. The old one never likes the cage since i bought he is always on the top of the cage or on the top of his small tree while the new one stay in the cage around 2 or 3 hours per day and sleep in the cage at night as well, but he spend the left out of the cage with the first one.

2. The cage is big. I think 1 m* 1 m* 1.5 m.

3. They wake up around 9:30 am and sleep around 9:30 pm.

4. I hold them on my hand or head, Talk to them, feed them by hand, put my hand on their heads playing on their feather, kissing the first one from mouth or head, sitting outside together when there is sun, ... Etc

note: I cant kiss the new one. I tried today and he bites my lip :?

5. The first one doesn't like variety of food. Nothing favorite. Some times he loves corn some times he through it, but i think he likes the broccoli and the small seeds i think they call it safflower seeds in English. The new one eats everything but his favorite is fresh corn and sunflower seeds (which i don't give too much only when i want him to fly and come to me)

6. I try to spend time with them like 15 minutes every 2 hours or some times more. Usually feeding them by hand specialy the old one and playing or talking to them. Plus more time of talking when i put them out or in the kitchen while i am cooking or working in the garden.

7. The old one is wild and he is byting since i bought, doesn't have a tail he always eat it, very temperamental. Some times bites me with out a reason when i put my hand in front of him to stand on it. Some times bites me while i am playing with his head feather and he is happy with that but i dont know why he is byting.
The new one is only 10 days here with us he was ok the first day, but smoky start to scaring him by byting or moving his head pretending to byte, byting him when he want to go on the tree or eat from his food. So starting from the third day he start to make the same moves and sounds that smoky makes to scare me :D including byting.

Navre, I am in Jordan and here its normal to import parrots from everywhere in the world and from any type. Usually they imported parrots monthly. They sell the wild african grey within arange of 100-150$ And usually they die within several days :( and they sell the farm african within 230-250$.

Well i want to know the information because the farm parrot suppose to be familier with human no byting, no scaring, ... Etc. so am afraid that its wild one and they put the ring somehow even if the band is very tied and can not be open. And i also want to know the information because the two parrots are not becoming friend so i think they are either two females or two males.

Grey parrots are not big on being touched by either humans or by other birds including their own mates. They reserve most of the touching to just limited preening or for reproduction. The reason that they are not becoming friends could be due to them being the same sex or it could also be the difference in their ages as the adult and the juveniles rarely ever interact unless the older bird is the younger birds parent.

Check your PM and I will give you my e mail address.

My Grey only bites a little if she is hormonal or if I have been holding a telephone or remote control, she hates them with a passion any other time she will gently grab my finger and move it away and I listen to her when she does this because she is telling me that she has had enough or doesn't like what I am doing. If I ignore her about this long enough she will resort to biting to get my attention, I prefer to not make her bite.

Here are some of the pictures that Mina sent me to post for her. I have more but they are if a different format and I am working on them. I will leave it to Mina to tell you about the pictures, but I believe that these are all of her newest parrot.
