Avian vets and the SPCA donated their medical services so I am sure that helped with the expenses but still... such a huge amount of birds and some of them in real bad shape sucks up A LOT of money!

More recent info and a request for volunteers as the parrots need socialization pretty badly, apparently.

Thats a news story, and the news helps them but this is Grey Havens update and this is the link to pay attention to. They are starting to adopt now, they are also looking for people to sponsor, donate or volunteer as well. http://greyhaven.bc.ca/update

Oh, WOW, things were really, really bad in there and, apparently, the situation was not caused by just a two month decline either...

Bad news is they are not adopting to USA...

No they are not going to adopt to the States but if someone went down there and volunteered for a while and made a special parrot friend, I bet they would let that one be adopted, but then you would have to get them through quarantine, and its not an easy process on the parrot. I am still keeping up in case they have a Poi that could fit in here and have a good life. They had a Meyers and Senegal breeder on the Island, and Vancouver has Red Bellys, Brown headeds and Meyers, but they arent put in shelters much around here, and they are in high demand. The sanctuary near Kelowna has 4 Senegals and two are plucking and very raggy looking, but they will not adopt often and only one parrot to a home with a senior. Pois are hard to come by around here.

Yes, I am sure you are right but who would travel to Canada and spend a few weeks volunteering (paying for the round trip PLUS room and board) just to get approved for a bird adoption? There are so many birds been rehomed here that it would be silly to spend all that money and risk been away from one's own birds just to get one of theirs...

Yes you are right so they are having to appeal to a much smaller population of people for that many parrots. In Canada the majority of the population is in the East and they have to appeal to the West. I hope it goes well.

And that is why I was saying that they should either send some birds to East Canada rescues or maybe establish temporary 'satellite' posts so more people will have access to them. Maybe they can get applications from people in the East for specific birds, check their references, get another rescue to do the home inspections for them (we used to do this at Waggin' Tails so we could adopt out of state) and, when the only thing missing is the time the prospective adopter needs to spend with the bird, send it to the satellite location (it could even be foster homes, it doesn't even have to be a centralized location).

The may end up doing that, but right now they are dealing with what resources they have, and they are doing a really good job and have really rose to this occasion.
