I have seen this many times in my house full of animals. Those who have been with me the longest start making contact and teaching as soon as they are added. They accept the new one of whatever as a new sibling. Like a large human family the oldest takes care of the youngest.

I am still amazed that, even though the critters run with my daughter and sons critters. They still know who is in their immediate family.
