I don't know how eggs are in your country but, here, we can get medium, large, extra large and jumbo eggs and the medium ones are very similar to a macaw egg.

Arent you worried that using chicken eggs might expose the Macaw to possible Samonella?

Wash it with dish soap and rinse twice then dry with a towel.

Yes, washing them, as Liz recommends, would do it but they would also have to be boiled before putting them in the nest.

yes that is what i have been taught, you must boil them to kill the Samonella.

Actually, I would hard-boil them even if there was no danger of salmonella (to avoid breakage).

Yes, Birdwoman, you are 100% correct but the OP is in Sweden or Finland and the bird has already laid the egg so I figured that the fastest thing would be to use a chicken egg to replace the real one.
