Of course he wants to cuddle! At two years of age, he is still a very young little boy which should never be alone for one minute! Please explain this to the firefighter. Leaving him alone is like leaving a 5 or 6 year old alone in a house all day long - VERY scary and traumatizing to the poor little boy! It's terrible how many people who really do NOT have the lifestyle for it have parrots...

Great on the vet news! Remind us the day before they go so we can all send good thoughts and vibes their way!

Yes Rio is young and full of it. Good thing I make big block toys as { SHE } is destroying everything in sight. This situation is like a kid in a candy store even this morning . I'm keeping a log for rio's dad of the foods she likes and I'm sure this will help him out with feeding her right. I'm also taking and putting in proper perches and toys in her cage today { with permission of course } . BW

All pearly' sores are healed now that the vet caused and I won't soon forget about it. Put me so far behind with her feathers because of all the bandages and medication on her skin. Feathers around her neck , chest and back just gooped up and malformed them but after a good bath things look a little better. Now to work on making her look like a cockatoo . She feels great and is getting really sassy. I started calling her munchousien as she loves to take medication and be fussed over, almost obsessively. I still have no word on YaYa' S operation with the specialist up north and she's had the records for 9 days now. Seems like more of the same. I'm at the mercy of all these drag your feet vets and not liking it at all. Rio the macaw that I'm babysitting is turning into a real special girl. She has so much freedom here that she is soaking everything up like a little sponge. She plays on the lawn like a puppy , running climbing , chasing the cat or butterfly's it's pretty crazy. Hope the owner likes his new bird when he gets home  The rest of the flock is well but things aren't ideal as the smoke is to much here in S.O and it's really cut down on outside playtime. I can get them outside for a few hours in the morning and sometimes in the evening if the wind comes up and clears the valley out but that's it for the last week. When there outside it gives me time to clean up there messes without them going right behind me and making more. Got a call from the restaurant a few days ago Sara my daughter in law gave me a number of a guy that wants to surrender his cockatoo. Said he forgets to feed it all the time and to call in the afternoon because he was out of minutes on his phone and would put more on then. Well that's been 3 days ago and the phone still won't take calls. I keep thinking about that poor bird with this horrible record heat wave we're having. Sara said when he comes back in she will get the address or just have him bring it to the restaurant. Well enough for now ! :D

Good update, Patti! Thank goodness Pearly's sores are healing without them being a huge step back! Some of these birds are so very fragile emotionally speaking that the merest little thing can set them back months and months of improvement! Have you called the specialist vet? I am the kind of person who hates to pester professionals by calling and calling but, sometimes, you have no choice. In his/her defense, if Yaya had a little tuck done recently, he/she might not think it's good to put him through a second surgery so soon... I like to wait a few months in between 'bad' treatments/surgery myself but only if there is no real emergency, of course!

I keep on thinking about Rio. She is going to miss the life she is having SOOOOO much! I sometimes wonder if it's beneficial to them to go from deprivation to good life just to go back to the deprivation afterward... There was this lady who had a single female tiel and, whenever her and her husband went anywhere, she would bring her for me to take care of her - which was often. I never charged her a single penny and they were a young couple that went on vacations/weekends so I guess I was the perfect solution for them but I always felt so bad about giving her back to them because I knew she was going from cage-free to caged all day long and from flock to loneliness... she turned into a chronic layer and ended up dying of eggbinding and even though she was not my bird, I still feel guilty about it.

And JEEZ on that poor cockatoo that doesn't get food all the time!!! Now you will have me worrying about it, too! So I hope from the bottom of my heart that this guy does show up again -maybe offer him a bit of money for it?

I have thought often these past few days about the very same thing with Rio. He said she is out of her cage all day when he's home as he works as an artist at home when not on a fire. But I hope that doesn't mean just out on top the cage because this just won't due with her anymore. Yaya hasn't had any medical for 2 years other than the blood work , exam and ex-rays that I had done. I doubt if she ever had any before that either but no credible info on her. Nigel the terrible hasn't bit me in a long time but still likes to chase my feet around and now Riki his partner in crime is trying to get my feet two. still no word on the umbrella rescue and weighing heavy on my mind. I haven't heard from David , Rio's dad since he dropped her off and that was on the 25th of last month. The birds are just finishing up with breakfast and the ones that are done are bugging me to get outside already , RIO being the loudest. got my coffee down better get me situated . Have a great day. pray for a smoke free day , we're burning up here and smoked in.

Oh, I got confused! I thought Yaya was the one with the prolapse but he is the one with the bad wing, right? I forget their names - sorry about that! WOW! Rio's owner hasn't even called in two weeks?! Oh, geez, that not good... not good at all! I mean, parrots need people that are pretty much obsessed with them because of the huge amount of time and work one needs to put into their care if one wants them to be healthy and happy so, if this guy did not even take 5 minutes of his time to inquiry about her... well, let's say that it does NOT bode well for this poor bird!

I hear you on the not needing another macaw but, if it was me, I would be worried about the quality of life this bird will have when it leaves...
