Yeah it could be called stupid or all sorts of things. It is that invincibility syndrome raising it head to say, I am better than that so it can't happen to me. It is the same one that causes people to take their birds outside without a cage or harness on.

I seriously don't know how anyone can take their birds outside without a cage or harness I would be so scared I know my birds would probably fly to a favourite spot outside and realise they aren't attached to anything and keep going.I remember when I first got Rocko and he wasn't tame and I walked up the stairs and my sisters window was wide open and he was standing at it getting air lol he must have been so hot he could sense the cold air coming from her bedroom and I had millet and his cage and tried to get him to come because he wasn't tame and I didnt wanna risk scaring him but eventually I just slowly went over and shut the window and he stepped up.

I see a lot of people posting pictures on Facebook with clipped birds outside and I tell them they can still fly away outside and I explain in detail and some people would just reply with "I know he/she wont fly that far and ill catch him/her easily if it does happen". Like why even risk it.

Parrots for Life...

I totally agree, even though I confessed here (via before-and-30-years-after pictures) to having once had that habit when I first got my bird. I look back and cringe at the things that COULD have happened. There I am in 1985 grinning (and clipped bird posing on my shirt)... the bird store owner told me it was safe!!!! Anyway, I'm glad to have been very lucky!

I think it's great that we repeatedly put the word out about how perilous it is.

Same with me only I never brought them outside without a harness I used to clip back when I had budgies but don't anymore actually any bird I had was only clipped once and then allowed flight when they grew back but my African grey has never been clipped only when she was a clumsy baby and now she is 8 years old.
