It could be the angle but it does look a bit swollen on that side...

Chantilly, it's the same here. Wildlife rehabber usually euthanize any animal that cannot be released back into the wild but there are exceptions. Ask around because there are vets that would defy the laws and treat wild birds. I had taken in a female Northern cardinal from this lady in Manhattan and, because they are American birds, it's illegal to keep them in captivity but my avian vet treated her and, when she got better (it took a couple of years), I found her a wildlife rehabber that had a wintering enclosure for wild birds that could not be released back into the wild - took me an entire year to find this lady and constantly asking on every single birdsite I could find, we also had to drive three hours each way but I did manage to get her better and find her a safe place for her to live.

Thankyou all, I will make sure I check Tillys nose (Shrek is on me at the moment)

Thankyou so much Paj, I will start looking around definately, I actually might know someone now that I think about it, a Wildlife park nearby, they have a Wedge tail eagle who was hit by a car, so they might take in this little guy. Will definately check!

NC Zoo had a Wild Life Rehab. They had a vet on call. If it could not be released back to the wild but could be handled they kept them.

I developed a friendship with a vulture named Oscar. He was in a flight cage by himself. I sat on a big rock outside his cage to smoke. He came down and showed me a game he invented to amuse himself and fill the time. He would bring twigs he found in his cage and give them to me. If I put a branch in his cage we played tug of war. I let him win. I would find something on the way to his cage that he did not have inside just to give it to him. He liked pine cones.

I love that story.

What was the instinctive basis for that behavior, if any? Playing and tugging bones???? Carcasses? Still sweet in any event.

Sounds more like a nesting behavior, Gail - vultures make their nests out of small branches.
