If you could ask your parrot one question...

If you could ask your parrot one question (that it would reply the truth to), what would you want to find out?

Are you happy?

If I got two -- What ARE those things that sound like talking really supposed to be?

My first question would be, "What would make you happier?"

And like entranced, I'd want two questions and it would be, "What do you need my husband to do to make you not hate him so much?"

I think I have some grasp of when my parrot is happy because she behaves that way at certain times and not others so the correlations create an idea of "happiness" behavior. As for Mandy's question about making the parrot happier... Oh boy... I don't know if you could get the parrot to stop answering that one!

I'd want to ask Kili "what really motivates you?" Even after nearly two years with her and 30+ behaviors trained, I'm still not absolutely sure what motivates her to respond. Vaguely I know about food and weight management and what not but it doesn't always make sense. Some days she'll do an incredible job on a full crop and others will be starved and not budge a toe. Then again even if asked I doubt she could really answer that, heck do we even know what motivates us sometimes?

I can't think of one question that really stands out.... I feel like I know my bird pretty well, and we're pretty in sync. I have a MILLION little questions that I'd love to ask.

Why don't you like this toy, what's your natural diet like, do you hate being clipped, do you hate being in a cage, do you want a parrot friend or am i enough, why do you hate everyone but me....

Today, it would be 'Jessie, is Charlie annoying you?"

My step-daughter has a Cockatiel named Charlie and she brought him for the weekend and they are all in the same room. Before anyone wonders, we got Charlie for her in December and he was quarantined from Lucy and Jessie in one of the bedrooms upstairs with the door closed at Christmas. Charlie has since been checked out by our avian vet and has a clean bill of health. He's not with any other birds at home, so I felt it was safe to introduce him to Lucy and Jessie.

Anyways, Charlie is quite the noise maker and I'm sensing that Jessie is annoyed. Everytime Charlie starts up, Jessie starts yelling at him and then Lucy starts saying 'Shut up'. It's a loud and comical weekend around here. Needless to say, I think Jessie will be happy when Charlie goes home tomorrow.

Outside of that, I'd ask both of them if they were happy.
