Baby Cape!

I'm pretty laid back about it... I think it's much harder and more impatient for a first parrot. I couldn't imagine waiting this long for a first one. But I've been busy with Kili and getting ready so I don't notice it so badly. Been working on getting a new parrot since like October already!

New update. The baby is just starting to fly and moving to weening cage tonight. Jean says it's got anywhere from 2 weeks to a month left to go.

Do you have any more pictures to tease us with? What a beautiful bird! A would love to have a Cape too, maybe someday.

Sounds like our babies are close to the same schedule. Simon took his first flight a couple of days ago and is becoming less interested in formula. Do you know the hatch date for your Cape? (sorry if you already stated it in this thread... I'm being lazy.)

Also, now you can get on naming him! I'm curious as to what it will be.

I don't have the exact hatch date because the baby was parent raised for the first month. Jean estimated that it hatched around Feb 28, so I'm going with that. But it could have actually been a few days earlier or later.

My Grey was hatched February 18. It will be interesting to compare notes on development once you get your Cape home.

Cape probably weens and matures quicker than a grey?

Capes average weaning at 12 to 14 weeks and Greys are 14 to 16 weeks. Of course, each individual bird is different. Sexual maturity is 6-7 years for a Grey and 3 to 5 years for the Cape. So I guess they'll have significant differences in their rates of development.
