I wouldn't say parrots are better than children. Asking this question and providing a response gets a bit personal, but here goes. I don't have any biological children. My husband has an 11-year old daughter and a 16 year-old son from his first marriage. My step-daughter lives with her mom and my step-son lives with us. I've only been in their lives for 5 years, but being a parent is very rewarding. It does present its challenges at times and has its ups and downs, but earning their love and trust has been very rewarding for me. My husband and I don't plan on having any children together. I never planned on having kids before I met him, but have 2 amazing step-kids that I love as if they were my own.
I have no problem saying that Lucy and Jessie are my feathered kids. They bring joy to my life every day and I'm crazy about them, but they can't match the pride and joy I feel about my step-kids. Having said that, because we're not having any kids of our own, that's one reason why I decided to get one more bird.
Maybe another question to ask is 'Why are parrots better than other types of pets?"
