I voted no, as our Tim and Prince have been left out of their cage many a time if I'm only going out for a short time, you can read why if you follow the link Michael put up.
The only damage they ever do is chew the odd piece of fruit if it's left out and push all paper onto the ground. Our birds all have a sleep in the middle of the day anyway.
We leave nothing out that could harm the birds, so while they don't have their own room, our kitchen/front room/loungeroom is bird friendly. It also flows into each other so I can leave them out all day and know what they're up to. They'll happily pig out on the fruit bowl, so that rarely gets filled anymore, but it only ever had bird friendly foods in it anyway. We're very strict on NOT leaving food out that could hurt the birds, but also not leaving food out in general, my brother has a disease cause by food poisoning, so everything gets put away. I don't know about you guys, but here our windows HAVE to have screens to stop embers coming in during Bushfire season, so there's no worry there, and we don't leave our ceiling fans on.
I guess the only non-bird-proof thing is our power cables(that Mali loves climbing up off the floor with), but they're pretty out of sight, and Tim and Prince don't go exploring in this section of the house, they more go exploring if you leave doors open and they can get into bedrooms. But they're still birdproof.
