michael, you didn't buy the flightline one, right? if not, did you consider it? if charlie wasn't clipped, i think it would be cool to try that one.

I talked to Steve. It turns out the flight line isn't what it seems to be. The whole point of the flight line is that it's like a thing you stake in the ground and the parrot can fly around in the radius from that central point (like in a large backyard). It's not an actual handheld flight leash. He doesn't make one. You have to make your own. I use a nylon kite string for Kili. If you consider flying your parrot, I can show you how I set up my string. But there aren't any flight lines for restrained flight to be used as a leash that I know of.

Wouldnt it be better to attach something elastic to it rather than nylon? Like a retractable dog leash?

Those are often too heavy I think. Don't forget we're flying little parrots that barely weigh anything. I'm just using kite string. I assume it's made from nylon. The 5ft end of the aviatior harness is elastic as it is. That provides the necessary shock absorption. The rest of the flight leash doesn't have to be elastic.

The point of the elastic leash on aviator harness is so when the parrot flies off, it slowly reduces its speed rather than jerk it to a stop. Furthermore, it's protection from breaking. It will dissipate the energy and stretch rather than break.

Makes sense now. Makes me feel better about it.
