Gift for breeder

Postby Michael » Wed Jun 09, 2010 3:59 pm

Hey, I want your suggestions what I should get for Jean as a gift to thank her for all her hard work and extras she's done for me. Of course I will wait till I get the bird to send it, but if it takes me time to get it or come up with ideas, I'm better off brain storming now. So anyone have any good ideas about something nice to get for a parrot breeder?

I'm thinking possibly a necklace with a Cape Parrot on it. I found a couple sites that sell parrot jewelry but no one has Cape stuff.

Something with an African Grey on it is a fallback option since Jean really likes Greys. I'm totally open to other ideas though and if anyone finds anyone that sells something with Capes on it, definitely let me know. Any artists on here that can make something like those other sites offer but in Cape flavor??

She calls herself the African Queen so how about a copy of that movie or better, some sort of memorabilia from it? Also, as a woman, I can tell you that flowers are ALWAYS appreciated!

Those charm bracelets look beautifull. I think its a very nice thing to do!
When giving gifts to bird people, I usually give things their birds can use. Home made toys are a big hit.
But I think you wanted to give something more personal.

See I would have given her some gift certificate to an online bird stores where she could get something, seeing how I would love something like that.

But I have to say, I do like the jewelry from that first website you posted. Might get something from them somewhere down the line.

If you do get jewelry, why not have one of a Grey done which resembles her logo (more so in the pose of the Grey)?

I make jewelry... Here's a piece I made for someone using photos of their horses image processed and transferred onto polymer clay to look like a painted porcelain piece. Handmade and completely unique. I've been contemplating parrot jewelry and an image transfer project like this would be straightforward given a photo to start from. The main problem with me is that I have a full time job, a horse and a parrot, so I'm kind of slow... Image

The thing I'm worried about is that Jean has her own line of Parrot Jewelry so sending jewelry might be redundant. Flowers were an idea I didn't even consider and it's totally doable but don't you think it would be kinda lame? It's like she spent 3 months raising this baby and I send her a little color popsicle that dies in a few days. Both ideas are possible.

I don't think a gift certificate or parrot stuff would be in order though. She buys this stuff by the barrel. She has over 100 parrots so I'm sure she has bulk contracts so a parrot toy here and there would go unnoticed. Any other ideas of what I can get her that is meaningful but not too personal?

Some of the picture frames with parrots on them could be possible. Would it be appropriate to stick a photo of my parrot in the frame or give her just the frame as the gift?

I personally think that what you are doing is a gesture of your gratitude. There is no way for you to know what her personal tastes are so I'd think jewelry would be too personal. I never think flowers are lame. I LOVE to get flowers and I am always genuinely touched when I get them.

Oh! What about an Edible Arrangement? They are really cool and you can get them in a pail or pot that can be reused. http://www.ediblearrangements.com/ I don't know about anybody else, but I would love to get one of those as a gift and I think it expresses gratitude perfectly without buying something too personal that may end up in a drawer somewhere. (and it is a bit more unique than a standard fruit basket)

You really never know what is going to touch people. I took my breeder Scott some fudge at Christmas last year and he was very obviously surprised and touched by the gesture and I was thinking, wow, it's just fudge. But it really is the thought that counts I think.

I think that since she is so known as a parrot person, she probably has an abundance of parrot themed items.

I know you said not too personal, but seeing as I just ordered something from this site last night (Father's Day), I couldn't help but think of it. Personalizationmall.com is really reasonably priced, I've made a few orders and all the stuff comes out perfect with your custom message/words/names on it. You could do something like this: http://www.personalizationmall.com/Pers ... d=11333762
With a picture of the Cape and write a thank you note/letter on it. You topped me, I just e-mailed my breeder an extensive thank you and have been spreading her name around. :)

Check out the site, see if there's anything that seems ok. They don't have any bird themed things as far as I found, but since you can upload your picture, you can make just about anything bird themed and thank you themed.

That's all I can think of. :?

i bought a print from a woman on etsy.com of a nanday, i just looked up her paintings for sale and she has a pretty african grey one (link below) - no cape's though :(

it is not too big and not expensive. mine came with a black matted frame around it.
