Deaf dog returned to shelter 3 times, finds her new forever home! They had returned her because she was too difficult to train but it's not true that they are THAT difficult! I've had three completely deaf dogs (Baby was just deaf, Tramp was also almost completely blind and could no longer walk. and the third, Magoo, had severe brain damage and could not see, hear or even move to walk, turn or sit on its own - and yes, he still had quality of life! He ate, drank, peed and pooped normally. I would massage his body and turn him over every couple of hours -never had a single bed sore to the day he was put down, I would carry him outside and hold him up so he could 'feel' he was standing up and smell the fresh air, prop him up with pillows so he could sit and put him down next to me at night (he wore diapers) or another dog for naps. Magoo was warm, clean, fed, comfortable and content and I know because he did not lose his appetite until the end and would even wag his tail and lick me when he felt my hands on him) and they learn hand signs as fast a any other dog learns vocal commands. Baby was a maltese mix with an immune condition (black skin) that would make her scratch too much and I could even stop her from doing it - I would touch her side so she would look at me, wag my finger and head in a 'No' gesture and then make like a chewing mouth with my hand (she used to chew on her back too much) to show her what I wanted her to stop and she knew exactly what I wanted!
