Sad story about little dog brought to shelter to be put down... this one has a happy ending but can you imagine how many other dogs end up in the same situation and did not 'get lucky' like this one did? THIS is still another example of the millions there are that illustrate why we need to have laws regulating ownership of animals - because, as much as we would like to think that personal responsibility and education will do it, the sad fact is that a lot of people cannot be trusted to do the right thing.

Terrified dog was considered unadoptable and was going to be put down but family stepped up and changed his life (personal note: shelters do a test to determine if the dog is psychologically 'adoptable' or not but some dogs are simply so terrified of the strange noises, smells and people that do not react 'right' to these tests and are put down. At the rescue were I worked, we picked up lots of dogs that had failed the test from Animal Control and city/county shelters and they all worked out just fine because all they needed was a little patience and a normal environment)

We had to shut down our adoption program. We can’t have people coming in and possible getting the few crew we have left sick.

I also think that the state mandated we be closed to the public.

We are hoping that once we can use the outdoor aviary for adoption appointments, we will be allowed to start them up, again.

(Intakes are suspended, too)

Yes, the lockdown has been a two-edged sword when it comes to animals... some of the wild one are doing GREAT without people, some not so good because poachers are exploiting the situation - but the ones that depend on people are not doing well at all. And, as usual, people step up for homeless dogs, much less for cats and hardly anything for birds.

Maybe your rescue should consider placing their birds in foster - this will help the volunteers, spread out the food shortage problem and, for all you know, it might mean that more birds get adopted because there is always a 'fail' foster that ends up getting adopted by the foster parent :D
