Under 30 for a precious 9 more months here. I agree it's probably largely because young people are much more likely to use the internet, and message boards in particular, as resources. I mean, Izver's line about mailing lists is pretty illustrative. I'm not even very young and "mailing lists" sound like something people signed up for on CompuServe in 1993.

Okay, I resent all of these "old people can't use the internet" comments. I'll have you all know that I am 36 (37 on Thursday) and I have a firm grasp on all this new fangled technology. In fact, my generation started the internet so there! :P

36-37 isn't old in Internet terms. I'm talking more about people like my mom who is 65 and doesn't even know how to turn on a computer and has no interest in learning. Very few people under 40 or so are like that, but tons of older people are, and lots of them own birds.

Oh alright. Somebody earlier mentioned 24 as the cutoff for savvy internet users so I just had to say something! I agree about the 60 + crowd.

btw- my previous post was meant in a joking manner... sort of. :D

I am 24. I have had birds as long as i can remember, my family had budgies when i was a little girl.

Then i had a tiel for 10 years, he died 3 years ago, Thats when i got the Binxster. LOL. I decided to use this forum because while visiting it, i found a wealth of information.

I actually google a question i had about my senegal and this site came up, i have been hooked ever since. I think a lot of "younger" people are the google nation, we use google for anything and everything, maybe thats why so many youngsters are coming aboard!

im 17, 18 in October. i have lived independently since i was 16 so i had to grow up pretty fast. im currently living at my parents house but im renting a room. i got my first bird when i was 12. he was a green budgie called ollie. i worked at a pet store with a range of different birds including the more largers birds cockatoos, cags senegals and a few others. and also at a zoo with birds and big cats. i fed my first tiger when i was 12 and went in the cage with two fully grown male cheetahs when i was 13. i do feel older than i actually am so when people discriminate me for jobs because of my age it does not go down well with me.

This is turning out to be quite interesting because many people have not posted their age or picture so it has been hard to tell. But I didn't expect the under 30 crowd to be 3 times the size of over 30. The reason I put 30 as the cut off isn't to say that over 30 means old person but just because I suspected that the majority of our crowd is 20-30 so I wanted to test my hypothesis without separating age groups too thoroughly.

Tell me something else. For the folks under 30, does seeing a larger crowd of young folks on this forum, does it add to your attraction here or was that really a non issue? Has anyone been on another forum and thought it was too far out of their demographic and thus ended up here? Does the age demographic of members of this forum affect your participation here or is it really not a factor?

age factor is not an issue for me. i was drawn to this forum because it is regularly updated and there is a wealth of knowledge. i have always been drawn to people much older than me so i dont think the 'young factor' had drawn me to the forum at all.

Age is not an issue for me. Like mentioned before, the crowd here is very mature about things, and that is what atracted me to this forum.
