How to introduce new flighted parrots?

Postby Michael » Tue Jul 06, 2010 7:59 am

I'm going to start making preparations for introducing Kili to Truman soon. I wonder if it's better to introduce them out of the cages together first or to bring their cages close together and let them live near each other first. Eventually both will happen but I'm curious what order is better to do it in.

With smaller parakeets like budgies and tiels I always recommend introducing them outside their own territory. Maybe taking them to a bedroom or some other room the birds rarely get into. That way everything is new to both of them and neither has an advantage over the other.
I wouldn't put both cages next to one another. Even though they are both in their own cages the 'intruder' will get awfully close to their territory and that may spark an adversion or even agression.
Kika: Senegal Parrot.
Guus: Cockatiel, Yellowcheek, cinnamon, pearl, pied.
