parrot breeding forum

Postby Kim S » Sat Jul 10, 2010 9:58 am

I know it is a really crappy thing to ask here. But I am really interested how americans breed their parrots/parrokeets. You have a very different view on a lot of things and I like to learn different views.
I have been breeding budgies and cockatiels for years and I know all the tricks in the dutch books. I would like to know how Americans handle the pittfalls of breeding. It is the only thing I am missing on this forum. But I can understand you dont want a whole section added for that. I believe none of you advocate breeding your pet parrots and I respect that. I just hope you can show me a place where I can talk with other breeders. Does anyone know of a forum about breeding parrots? Preferably one where people are present that you knów are good breeders.

Do you mean North Americans or Americans?

Now I'm wondering if Americans and Canadians have differing views, or if it's more individual?

The couple of breeders I know don't participate on the internet, but they do get together for meetings in person...

I don't think its so much that none here advocate breeding (look at bmsweb!) but that the consensus is that it's not to be taken on lightly.

I believe the majority on this forum is US american. So I mostly meant that catagory. But If you know of any other sites/forums I would love to hear about it!

Breeding shouldn't be taken lightly. There are a lot of things that can go terribly wrong, loosing chicks is the easy part, believe me!
This forum is primely meant for the the normal every day household pet-parrot, or the 'house, kitchen and garden' -parrots as we Dutch like to call it. The training and keeping of that pet and how to comunicate better with it. Breeding doesnt really belong in that picture. Thats what I was trying to say :)

In Holland we have a forum for budgies that has all the sections we have here, and a seperate one for breeding. On this forum we have people with one or two pet budgies, but also people with about 100 parakeets off all plumage. The latter are mostly also breeders. I really love the way the big breeders and the household budgie keepers interact. The big breeders often have really good advice since they see a lot more things that go wrong and try a lot more different things (eg medicine and foods).
