Winnie's name was given to her by her previous owner and I decided to keep it. She was only 6 months old when I got her, so I wasn't against changing her name if it was something I hated, but Winnie was fine with me.

pchela, I'm not sure if you named your caique but I think Clarice would be a good name for a parrot because you could teach it to say "Hello Clarice" a la Hannibal Lecter :P

Names are always so interesting!

Tamber :senegal: is actually timbre or tone color in music. Too many people couldn't pronounce timbre correctly, so I changed it to the phonetic spelling. I was so impressed by all of the sounds he could make and all of the words he could say in different tonal registers that the name Tamber fits him very well. (Yes, I am a music person, obviously.) His nickname is Pretty Pretty Bird, said very fast. He loves the sound of that and will repeat it over and over and over!

Teyla :cockatiel: was inspired by a character from Stargate Atlantis named Teala (same phonetic pronunciation). The character always seemed to have an attitude one way or the other. I thought that fit her well. Meanwhile, her nickname is Choo Choo, which came from her chirps that she will mimic when I say them. This happens so often that now when I walk up to Teyla's cage, Tamber starts saying, "Choo choo choo."

I was actually leaning towards Clarice but my husband kept making that disgusting noise that Hannibal makes after he says the line about the fava beans and a nice chianti. He threatened to teach the bird to make that sound as well! Anyway, as it turns out I am now looking for a name for a male caique... not female. So, suggestions are again welcome!

''Mirri'' came from ''Merry'' which came from ''Meredith''. I felt like Mirri was an M-name bird (yeah, I'm weird) so I kept playing with different M-names until I found something that I liked and that suited her sweet nature.

Okay. For the male caique... do we like Indiana or Linus? Indiana is obvious, LInus is after Ben Linus (who is evil I know, but really cool and Lost is a great show).

Once you say Taca enough when refering to your parrot, you won't think of any other meaning. I think it's a good name.

I like Linus also over Indiana.

Keep in mind that the fewer syllables a name has, the easier it will be for the bird to learn and maybe even say eventually.

:quaker: I named my parrot D'artagnian because I like the three musketeers novel. :D D'artagnian (which I spelled wrong when I had the breeder make his birth/hatching certificate :hatching: ) has a courageous, curious, impulsive personality and tends to get himself in trouble. lol  I just felt it suited him.
