Well do you let him roam all over or does he just have a couple perches or whatever that he plays on? If a bird is allowed to roam freely and eat/play/poop wherever of course it's going to make a huge mess. I used to have a small dog and I was vacuuming up the hair it shed constantly, and that's not even accounting for the occasional "accident." Mostly because I deliberately make it so my birds can only make a mess in a couple designated areas, the overall work isn't as much.

A mess certainly does follow birds wherever they go. We had a guy out to quote us on air conditioning the other night and I apologized ahead of time if he stepped on a pellet or something. I hadn't gotten around to vacuuming for the day before he got there. When we don't have company coming over, the vacuum stays very close to the birds. I refuse to go upstairs or downstairs every day to get the vacuum.

And I can't help but laugh at Jessie sometimes. As soon as I'm finished vacuuming, there are days he'll start throwing his food out of his cage and start laughing. There was one day he started throwing food on me while I was vacuuming and he thought that was quite funny too  He's just too damn cute when he's laughing, that its impossible to get mad.

This once happened to me when I was at my LPS just a week ago. Two little kids were screaming, and running and having a good time, hitting the bird cages, flicking the fish tanks  , and even spitting in the puppy bin. The employee tried to stop them by telling their mother. SHE JUST TOLD HIM OFF SAYING THAT SHE DID NOT SEE ANY OF THIS!!!!!!!!!

Then one of the kids sliped on a little puddle of water, and the mom yelled at the employee again!!

After that family left you could see the relief in the employees face, and all the shoppers. I hope that whatever pet they have is not abused by the children like that at home.

I want to add that all the birds were in the back of their cage, the employee was cleaning up the puppy bin, and the fish were in a panic.

He's clipped and he doesn't roam on the floor. He spends 80% of his time between his cage and his play perch in the living room. When he's with me, either playing, training, or hanging out he doesn't make any mess. Guess you've just never seen how far an Amazon can throw food, how fast they can reduce large toys to toothpicks, or how far those wings can spread feathers/toy parts across the floor while he's flipping around his tree!

Oh no! My 5 birds win for mess! They surpass the mess created by the 4 dogs by a mile!

The mess is primarily around their cages, but when they're out, the mess follows them...and of course not only do we brush dog and cat hair off our black shirts, we pull feathers from our hair as well...

I keep the house as clean as I can without obcessing...and I can handle the bird dirt because it's mostly dry and vacuums/washes easily...but they do win!
Every parrot has a duty: To reduce the world to toothpicks.

Hi: I'm new here.. The dumbest question I get is "how do you sleep with all of that noise?" My house sounds like a jungle, and that is the way I like it. Peace and quiet would make me nervous! ha-ha-ha...

Another stupid thing people do, not really a question... is sometimes I get people shouting "*squawk*, er, poly wanna cracker!? *squawk*" and other dumb stuff like that. They end up looking like dumb life form while the parrot is so smart and composed and only talks when appropriate.

So many people start telling me that Truman is Kili's mother. When I explain that Truman is a baby and Kili is two years old they are absolutely shocked and cannot comprehend how a baby can be larger by so much. It's understandable that kids might not understand this concept... but when adults are asking this it's pretty silly. The concept of species or that they have different appearances doesn't seem to ring with them. Then I get people assuring me that Kili will still grow and reach Truman's size.

I work in a clothing store, not a pet store, but let me tell you, it gives you a newfound appreciation for what nightmares children can really be when not properly parented.
