Visit with a Cape Parrot

Postby pchela » Wed Jul 14, 2010 5:02 pm

So, I went by my breeders the other day (he's offered me a Red Belly male who is blind in one eye) and he had a female Cape (well, brown necked parrot). She was beautiful! I've known one other Cape, a male but I never got to hold him. She was really cool, she laughed when we laughed and really wanted to be a part of the conversation. She's 3 years old and he is selling her for $1295. Such a sweet bird! I wish I had lots of money and an agreement with my husband that allowed 5 + birds!

That's the problem, isn't it...there's always 'one more' out there. And there's the excitement of meeting with breeders, purchasing, setting-up, and then getting the bird home and getting to know it...

It's very exciting! I'd love to do it again as well. But I'm quite sure I'm at my limit!

BTW...why does the red belly only have one eye?

You'd better stop even going to these kinda things and tempting yourself. What's going on with the 3 birds max agreement?

Oh, I'm still working on the three bird agreement. I am looking for a good home for either the caique or the grey. As they are babies, they'll be easy to place. I've already turned people down because they didn't live up to my standards for bird care so we may never find them a home! (which would be okay with me) We'll just have to see what happens.

The Red Belly had some sort of accident... very sad. He was a sweet little guy and I'd take him in in a heartbeat if I could. I just want to rescue them all. I don't need to look at any more. I purposely stay away from places with available birds and I've stopped looking at Craigslist. I don't know why I went to the breeders. I just didn't have the self control to not go see all the baby birds. Hubby says maybe when we have a house I could get another bird...

lol...if that's the case, I'd be much more inclined to keep the 4 you have now...rather than give away a bird you want - just to go looking for another bird in a short while...

I avoid online adds for the same reason.
Mind you, I'm very specific in what I do want that seeing most of the birds for sale isn't too dangerous.
I got Joey through the want adds though, total fluke. Why was I looking that day and why did I go through so many pages (his add was so old I thought he was surely sold by then). But now I stay away..'cause each time I see a Poi in search of a new home my heart melts for it..

I've also had people offer me birds. It's hard to say no but at the same time, you just can't take them all in..sigh ;)

Well, one never knows how long the placement process might take... ;)

Actually, we've been in an apartment for going on 10 years and that doesn't look like it'll be changing anytime soon as much as I'd love a house.

Ten years in an apartment is a long time. Do you really want a house? Go for a tiny starter...and then slowly you can move up the ladder...

Oh, I'd love a house but we don't really want to stay in Texas and the property taxes here are insane anyway. Once my daughter graduates, we'll most likely move so there's really no point in getting one now.
