your birds characteristics

Postby TheNzJessie » Mon Jul 19, 2010 3:18 am

most of us own birds on here, have owned birds owned multiple birds and also of the same species

do you notice any characteristics that are the same between a species and some that are completely unique to your bird?

i find all rainbow lorikeets are Psycho a general trait that runs among all of them! but i also find unique differences between Jango and my previous rainbow luka and the rainbow at work.

what are some you notice?

My fosters are 2 cherry head conures. Alta is younger. He is skittish but loves to look for trouble and to wrestle. He is the kind of guy that likes to sit back and take everything in before he decides to like it. Griffith on the other hand is curious and not afraid of much. He is more easy going, but will definitely have no problem putting others in their place! Each has his own voice. I can tell which one is chatting (or yelling) by their voice.
I've only had one green cheek and one ekkie, but I know my birds. I know their voice and facial expressions. One time we had to board Jake, there were several other gccs there but when I picked him up I found his "area" just by following his calls ;)

alta and griffith? I was just reading their profiles on mickaboo xD anywho, I've only had one cockatiel but she stayed with a friend for a while and their 'tiel was completely different personality wise. He was totally outgoing, whistling and checking out all the action while Lucky ignored him and serenly groomed herself, being more self-contianed(she could care less about other birds). When we were at the birdstore the guy started putting birds on us (I had a senegal plopped on my shoulder, a black capped conure biting my fingers and two green cheeks on my lap!) I could see that the two green cheeks were nothing alike. They were both not quite tame or socialized but they addressed their fear in different ways. One was totally frightened and attempting to distance himself however possible while the other hid in my mom's jacket and acted all cuddly. I wonder how their personalities would have compared if I could of gotten to know them both. My mom fell in love with the cuddly one despite the bite she gave her and named her before we even decided if we were going home with a bird or not. She is still cuddly but way more playful. I can definitely see the difference in species traits in a cockatiel vs a gcc but recognize that some of it is unique to the individual =]
and lol, good to know that lories are physco :D
