well i think its because its sortof understood that if you have a lot of subscribers it makes you seem popular? also i think they want popular known youtubers to subscribe cuz they think it will seem cool for them and maybe make them feel more popular? thats my guess

Eventually if you get enough subscribers youtube will post ads on your videos and you'll get paid for it
