as soon as you tell someone there is a difference between the first week of owning a bird and scraping it poo off the bottom of the cage 10 years down the track it changes there mind....

i dont like it when people get parakeets or budgies and think that they only need food water and maybe a toy or two. i have a neighbor and her parakeets are scared to death of their hands when they feed them i dont think they relize that they are parrots. :budgie:

yep i roll my eyes at that excuse too, its just for marketing, i see a lot of aviary bred birds that have had a small amount of contact being sold off as hand reared birds living in an aviary thats why there 'cheap'

To me if someone is going to get a bird or any other animal for that matter they should really know and understand what all it takes to love and care for an animal, I am like you I get really upset when I hear that someone has given up their beloved animal for some dumb reason. That is the reason why the shelters are full of unwanted and abused animals. It is a sad world we live in when the sweetest and most lovable creatures we have on earth are just thrown away and not wanted. If someone does not have the time or understanding they should not get an animal. This is just my opinion.

Reminds me of an incident a few years ago. I took in a litter of feral kittens and tamed them, and was looking for homes. I can't get too particular about who they go to (there is an endless supply), but I do my best.

One woman came to see me. Her husband and son are allergic to cats, but they don't know how bad. So she wanted to come out, pick out a kitten, and if it didn't work, I could just take it back. Oh, and by the way. They were going on holidays for 3 weeks, like they do every summer, and I could just keep the kitten they picked until they got back from their holidays.

She was quite angry at me for not falling in with her plan.

yes my cat i have was actually a stray cat that had 5 kittens under our deck, the kittens were 2 weeks old when we found then, i decided to keep her and list the kittens when they got to 10 weeks free to good homes, i had gotton there vacinations wormed de flead it cost me over $300 in raising these kittens u wouldn't believe some of the poeple who called me wanting one they basically just saw the dollar signed in reselling them for $100 ea one person wanted to take all 5
ended up finding suitable homes for all of them 2 went to my next door neibour :)

humane society was also really good they said if i gave the mother a home they would pay for her to be spayed (but i ended up making a donation because they dont get any funding). so no my little kittees running around anymore :)
