24hr countdown!

Postby lainmai » Mon Aug 02, 2010 5:17 pm

The day has finally come! Tobi is ready to come home & I am picking him up on Wednesday afternoon.
With this in mind I figured I'd do one last checklist and see if I need to pick anything else up before my baby arrives!

Image

- cage
- toys (I removed a few from the cage so as no to overwhelm him)
- perches (various wood, rope, chain, bamboo, calci-block etc)
- playgym
- light fixture (full spectrum lighting)
- scale
- feed dishes
- water bottle
- food
- treats
- clicker & target sticks
- travel cage (see below)

Any suggestions on how to keep him calm during the 2hr + car ride home?

You look very well prepared!

The only thing I can suggest is to cover the back half of that round cage. Round cages are notoriously bad for birds, since NOT having a corner is stressful. If you put a back on it (a towel should do), you'll at least provide a sense of security...

I planned to have it fully covered if necessary. I've held onto the cage as a spare, it just has a use now as a temp cage (again) to transport Tobi home in as my other transport cage is perfect for my 'Lets but far too small for a Sennie! I'd never house a bird in a round cage perm =( But thanks for reminding me as I didn't have that on my "don't forget to bring" list although I already planned to bring it!

I also will have 2 other people in the car with me which might help or cause more stress - not sure which until the time arrives.

Congratulations! You must be so excited! Looks like you're well prepared. I agree about the towel on the round cage. He'll need a place to hide if he wants.

I leave in an hour! I've been for-warned that Tobi might regress once again after I take him home and I'd have to hand feed him if necessary. He has regressed twice and his day old brother has been weaned & at his new home for 2 weeks now. Hopefully he is a good boy but if not I'm prepared as well. I've hand raised several wild birds in the past successfully so although I'm far from a professional I know more than a novice. I'll post pictures of my boy when I make it home!
