Mickaboo

how many users know about or have birds from the bird rescue organization called Mickaboo? It's in California (I guess, mainly the bay area?) but I have heard it mentioned by a few other people and wondered who else knows about it... http://mickaboo.org/

I have adopted from them (big girl Scarlet :) ) and am currently fostering for them (2 cherry-heads from the SF feral flock).

I absolutely LOVE this organization. They are whole-heartedly committed to the parrots in their care. They are also dedicated to educating their community on proper avian husbandry and care. They have given MANY birds a new lease on life; saving many from a life (and eventual death) of improper care and abuse. They have helped many bird caretakers rehome their beloved birds when there was no other option, and helped those to keep them with support and education.

I used to post/read the parrot forums at Livejournal, and one or two of the ladies from Mickaboo were regular posters (if I remember correctly... I'm pretty sure). They REALLY know their stuff, and are very generous, kind, and helpful to all bird enthusiasts, new and old alike. I would highly recommend their organization, from what I know of it.

I found out about Mickaboo after I got my gcc and my friend told me about it. She adopted her cockatiels from there and fostered some tiels too (and I think she ended up adopting them as well  ) The current moratorium on conure and cockatiel intake makes me sad but I'm glad that they are 100% commited to the birds they already have. If I could foster a bird from there I'd do it in a heartbeat =) till then, I'm content with my lil girl

how are the foster birds doing ptuga? I'm such a sucker for conures :D

1.) it saddened many when the report went out that there just wasn't anymore room for conures or ties, but so many are stretched incredibly thin and adding more wouldn't be doing any favors to the birds taken in, and the foster parronts who love them

2.) OMG the fosters are a pair of clowns! They really could care less if I interact with them, but fight and play like puppies. When I am out of the room all four birds tell on each other. Last night my husband walked in on them standing two inches apart screaming in each others faces
One of these days I'll post more about them...

Oh and they have a facebook (Griffith Alta Conure) ;)
