Another small town Manitoban! The only place I can think of near Carman is Morden, I'm not very famiar with south or east of Winterpeg  . I'm from a small town west of Brandon, but you may as well consider me a Brandonite ;) .

I have a sister in Brandon. It's a nice wee city now.

Yes, Morden, Winkler and Carman kind of make up the triangle of towns in that area. Roland, a village of 300 people when I was living there, is right in the middle. :)

Red Moppet wrote:Ok, so forgive me if this is inappropriate - I figured in light of this conversation... you're from Ontario so you may get this but how many other Canadians, let alone Americans, know what beavertail is? I lived in Ottawa for a few years and was introduced to it. Unfortunately for me, when I was 13 my family decided to move to small-town Manitoba so I bought a beavertail t-shirt to remember good times skating on the Rideau. Well, I quickly learned that beavertail in Manitoba is NOT the same as it is in Ottawa! And for those of you who don't get this, I am not going to explain it!

I'm in Ottawa actually..so yeah, I know all about them!

Mmm..Beaver tail! :D

I like the Killaloe Sunrise the best.
Definitively one of the best winter things (cause having one in summer (I believe there is a place in the Market that sells them year round) just isn't right..).

hehehehe! While I agree with how bad the dish is, I know far too many people who love it.
Oh and when I was at University, I lived with a guy from France (he was there for the year) and he fell in love with it and actually made a version with blue cheese...which to me would make the whole thing more foul, for I do agree that proper Poutine needs the typical cheese curds it's known for...

Wondering if that is worst than "Acadien"..you know, the proper mix of French and English. There is something similar in the Ottawa Region, more so on the Quebec side (in the Outaouais) where what they speak is known as "Franglais"...absolutely terrible.

Ha ha, it's too bad we don't have any Newfies here! I've never heard anyone speak "Acadien" yet, but I definitely have to imagine that Newfies are harder to understand!

That is so cool - for some reason (I've never seen any either) I would never had imagined that there were "Canadian" restaurants! The menu looks interesting - have you tried the Saskatoon berries? Yum! :)

I LOVE Saskatoon berries! Use to go and pick them when I used to live near Quebec city, not so lucky in Ottawa...so I haven't eaten any in a while.

Just looking at pictures of the food..nothing that strikes me as typical Canadian food..but then, I wonder what typical Canadian food is...

Oh and I got to ask Kim...what does the description of Quebec Resort in the soup menu say??

Mmmmm Beavertails and poutine! We're going to be in Ottawa on vacation this weekend and I think we'll be having at least one beavertail while I'm there ... I think we're going down to the Byward market on Sunday :)

And while the best poutine I've ever had was in Quebec ... there are a few places in Ottawa that make a good poutine. I remember a place near Bank and 5th that made an awesome poutine :)
