I have to say I'm one of those Canucks that love poutine and beavertails :p (and I've never heard of Cannies before this board :p)

mmm, that restaurant looks good, it never occurred to me that there were Canadian restaurants out there lol :p

Ha! I wonder how many people, from outside of Canada obviously, get the "Winterpeg" reference...

Ok and how many other Canadians know of "Poutine"? I wonder how many people on the West side of the country have ever heard of it...I'm personally not a fan (which apparently is quite surprising since I'm from Quebec)[/quote]

Well, you should taste the " poutine " I eat near my place. French fries, sauce, of course, cole slaw, cheese (en grains), chicken and green peppers ! The best. Or the " all dressed poutine ", with the usual + pepperoni and green peppers, even better !

It seems Michael has totally left this discussion

Ok so to anyone who is wondering what Poutine is, it's fries covered in cheese curds (which must be fresh enough to squeak when you eat them) and that in turn is covered in gravy.

I know, sounds healthy, right? :P

And Beavertails...well...see here.

Hehe simultaneous post!
Well when I was living near Quebec city, my mom brought us (brother and I) to the restaurant in town which was known for it's Poutine...and I was not so impressed. Ate it, but I'm not a fan of soggy fries and the whole thing just seemed a bit much.
Then, in highschool the cafeteria served this Poutine which had grey-ish gravy, which to me just looked like some reused fat of some sort, and that just totally put me off the stuff. Never ate it mind you, it just looked too gross.

When I was in Trois-Rivieres (University) people tried to get me to eat some there, from the restaurant which was known for their Poutine (can't remember the name quite now) and I just couldn't.

Tee hee! But I do think that the Dutch "Canadian" restaurant should add them to their menu! :D

That's a great link - thanks for adding it. Man, now I really want poutine & beavertail! The idea of poutine grosses me out but in a cold, long winter (or after a few pints) when you are craving carbs and ooey gooey-ness it hits the spot. ;)

Natacha, do you think we scared Michael away?

Never liked poutine either, nor can I stand anything but 100% pure all natural maple syrup. LOVE beavertails, I'll be downing one in a few weeks at our local fair. Can't forget to add Pemale Bacon to the list...you can't get it anywhere else! In the US they serve "Canadian Back Bacon" which is totally NOT the same!

YES!!! The squeakier the better! I grew up in Ontario so the majority of the Poutine I could eat there (besides what mom made at home) was topped with just shredded mozza... Not real Poutine : ( And you can really only get the good ones in Quebec.

Also, I thought it was kind of cool when I loved in Australia, they had a fried shop there that sold fries, shredded cheese and gravy and called it the Canadian  At least the world recognizes our cuisine!
