I'm pulling this topic back up top since we've gained many new members since this was posted. Just want to make sure the Cannies aren't outnumbering us!

I've never heard the term "Cannie" either.

I'm a true Yankee. Born and raised in Pennsylvania. I did live south of the Mason Dixon Line for a while, but I'm so traumatized by it that I prefer not to talk about it. ;)

Me either. Must be a Michael thing. Most people call us Canucks. I just introduce myself as a 'Canadian eh'.

In addition to Poutine and Beavertails, I'd like to add BUTTERTARTS to the list of Canadian cuisine. My big brother grew up in Florida and when he found us (his biological family) he didn't know what any of those things were! You poor deprived Americans. *shakes head sadly* ;) Also, there's a Canadian Steakhouse at Disney's Epcot park. :D

Why is it all of our food is so fattening but so delicious? :P

My older brother makes fun of the rest of us for saying 'aboot' all the time. I don't hear it. It's only a matter of time before he loses his LA accent and joins us! *evil laughter* XD

I don't know what any of those things are. But I grew up with a lot of Eastern European foods (halushki, halupki, pierogies, paprikash) so that they may just be me.

Kaylayuh - Poutine is French Fries with cheese and gravy in its most basic form, but there are a lot of elaboreate spin-offs nowadays.

As for Beavertails... you may know them as Elephant Ears in the States. It's just a giant funnelcake with sugar/spice/icing, depending on your preferences. And it's shaped like a beaver's tail. No real beavers involved.

Buttertarts are like miniature pecan pies, but with a shortbread crust. And they're the most delicious things you'll ever taste. My neighbour makes THE most amazing buttertarts. Mmmmm...

You make me miss all those things!
I was in Czechoslovakia- at that time it was one country and I was in Hungary too: first had a good bear and Hungary good goulash) I still make pierogi every year on Christmas ;)

Poutine here would be called disco fries. I'm not a fan.

I also haven't heard of elephant ears. But again, that may just be me, since I'm also not a fan of funnelcake.

We do have pecan pies, but I've never seen one with a shortbread crust. But since I don't eat them either, it's not surprising. ;)
