Facebook fail.

Postby Azure Hanyo » Fri Aug 20, 2010 2:31 pm

I posted a video of me playing with Galileo on my facebook...and subsequently had to talk two people out of getting parrots for their own. They thought they would spend maybe $100 on a parrot like Galileo, and that she was always friendly and never bit me and came completely well-socialized and can be friends with everyone.

Um... No?... After I told them I got her from a rescue, and normally parrots like her are $800 birds with $400 (or more) massive cages, they backed off. And then I explained her desire to dominate me, the fact that she HAS bitten me dozens of times and drawn blood and even severely bruised my hand once... Sigh. At least they gave up on that idea, lol!

I don't recommend posting parrot videos on one's facebook without being prepared to answer some reeeeally dumb questions... "Oh, can I put a caique in with my parakeet?" Depends. Do you want to keep that parakeet alive?...

At least you managed to put them off!

Every damn time I tell someone I own a Parrot the first thing they ask is "Does it talk?"

Arrggghhh!

My new favorite question from people is "your bird's not in a cage????" very worriedly. They're always shocked to find out that she is only in her cage when we are not home or she is sleeping. Birds belong in cages at all times, apparently there's something wrong with us for letting her out all the time.

So far I haven't had to talk anyone out of it.. Sadie does that for me, she bites everyone that comes over.

Nippy Senegal stage... flight and extensive taming/socialization are key to overcoming this. Hang in there, I did get past this with Kili even though it seemed like it would be impossible.

I don't really find that too irritating either... And once...only once... When someone asked me, Galileo started laughing. Best. Thing. Ever. She sounds like Megatron having a giggle fit.
