I finally managed to get one of Charlie the DYH Amazon's moulted feathers. It looks like she played with it a bit before I managed to get to it, but it was still good for painting on. So here's a portrait of Charlie on one of her own moulted feathers.

When the feather's been treated properly to hold all the strands in place, it's not much harder than painting on a regular canvas. I have to be more careful about putting the base coat on, but once that's done, it's smooth sailing.

I have to go to the craft store tomorrow to get a finer paintbrush. The brush I have isn't quite small enough.
