I got it ... just not a CANADIAN fan ... I'm more of an KEITH's fan ;) Not sure if they have any catchy commercial's though ;)

Well I appreciate the link Natacha. I figured it was some kind of Canadian "inside" joke. Pretty funny commercial!

My Dad was born in the City and grew up in Brooklyn and Staten Island. Does that count?

You Cannies! Stop stealing my threads. It's all your fault my New York Parrot Club isn't coming to be cause you monopolize my forum with your Canada talk and beedy little eyes! But no more! It's all Canada's fault!

I am in Astoria, Queens, NY. Where are you Micheal? What is a parrot club? Is it where just us owners go and meet? or is it where we all bring our parrots?

I'd be interested to meet other parrot owners, if the location of the meeting was not too far away. My schedule for work is changing so I will be working until the evening on most nights. So, Thursdays, Fridays, or weekends are good at this time.

First I need to figure out how many New Yorkers I have contact with just to gauge interest. Then I would have to see what they'd potentially be interested in and how much money we could pool to move forward.

Ideally this is what I'd want the club to be (but I'll have to judge the reality of it by how much of a response I can get):

-Monthly meetings in person with a specific lecture on parrot topics and discussion (sometimes training, other times diet, etc)
-Monthly fly days where flighted (and vet checked) parrots can be brought to a rented open location to freefly indoors. Perhaps rent a school gymnasium or some space like that. The more members, the more likely to find someone with connections that might be able to arrange this for cheap or free
-If there is enough member (probably 50+), it would be possible to pay for guest lecturers from parrot experts
-Try to get club rate by establishing relationship with one avian vet in city. All members would use that vet but in return get a sizable discount and receive clearance to bring their birds to club gatherings
-Purchase parrot food/supplies in bulk direct from manufacturers and then resell/redistribute to club members at prices below retail but marked up enough to raise further funds for the society

So in effect it would be both a parrot commune where funds are pooled to gain privileges/products in bulk (big space for parrots to fly, books, bird food) and it would be a social group to learn further about parrots and exchange ideas/help in person. If membership is 3-10 people, meetings would probably be held in public place like a park or starbucks. 10-30 people and it would involve finding a small monthly rental meeting location the way many clubs do. 30+ and it would require a more sizable place that would also be used for flight.

I understand that the forum may only produce 2-10 people in the New York area and not everyone will be interested. But it's a start. And if there is a serious interest to starting such a group, if each of 10 people went out and found 10 more parrot owners in NY that would like to join, we'd have a club going. The more members of the club, the cheaper it is for every member to enjoy greater benefits. So all you Canadians butt out and let us New Yorkers run the show here!

That is an awesome idea, Michael. I wish I was still in NY.

Also, blame Canada.
